The Peterson’s Garden Community Cooking School Kitchen invites and welcomes retired seniors, elders, and participants at the Satellite Senior Center of the Broadway Armory Park to spend Sundays cooking together and learning how to prepare wholesome nutritional food to sustain our daily life in the community.

Sundays with Seniors is hosted by Chef Fresh and the Peterson’s Garden Community Cooking School is a blessing for elders who are willing to take the time and learn how to prepare and cook their own food, while sharing with the others their own common sense in the consumption of essential sustainable nutrition for the retired seniors in the Edgewater community by Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois.

Although I already know how to cook, I must acknowledge that preparing food in the Peterson community cooking school is a learning challenge given organic fresh produce, substitute ingredients, the variety of taste, flavor, and the epicurean sense for food. We must have tried cooking anything as simple as an egg omelet for Sunday Brunch with Seniors, to a Vegan Lentil Curry, including Golden Milk with turmeric, coconut milk, cinnamon, etc., to a Blueberry-Parsley Smoothie with Honey, Lemon Spice Fire Water for a better health cycle, recommended by Chef Fresh who lived in Thailand, Southeast Asia.

I am always willing to take up a challenge and learn from risk-taking. So, I am transitioning into a senior citizen lifestyle from middle-age and adjusting my eating habits to organic whole foods, using Vegan ingredients to prepare daily food and meals; testing new organic, Vegan recipes….and simply spending Sundays with Seniors once a month for an inter-generational cooking class session to learn how to prepare new food ingredients.

After discussion and food preparation in this class taught by Chef Fresh and kitchen assistants, participants, sit down at the end of the class to share the meal we’ve created out of the blue. Our community cooking school sessions are never boring or distasteful. Time flies from 1-3PM, when you are learning new cooking skills for a sustainable lifestyle, and also for fun on Sundays with Seniors at the Peterson’s community cooking school, in the Edgewater neighborhood by Lake Michigan, Chicago, Illinois. "One is never too old to learn something new".

Sunday, December 11, 1-3pm: Sundays with Seniors – Affordable Seafood

While seafood like lobster started out as food only eaten by peasants, many similar seafood options are now pricey. Seafood doesn’t always have to break the bank, though. In this class, we’ll talk about how to enjoy seafood affordably and how to cook it like the pros! Join us on Sundays once a month for an inter-generational cooking class–each month we’ll cover a new cooking topic and sit down at the end of class to share the meal we’ve created. All ages welcome.
