Me dicen que hablas con mi Mamá, tu Tía Gardenia Fong Ramos por teléfono y yo necesito hablar con ella aquí en Chicago, porque estoy en el Centro de Ancianos de Edgewater, Edgewater Senior Center, 5917 North Broadway, Chicago, Illinois 60660, Telephone 312-742-5323/312-742-5187. Hace once (11) años que mi Madre no me habla en persona, ni siquiera se encuentra conmigo. Yo necesito reunirme con mi Mamá, Gardenia Fong Ramos. Me puedes hacer el favor de decírselo cuando hables con ella por teléfono, Keila María Olmo Fong.

Espero que al recibo de estas líneas se encuentren bien en La Habana, Cuba. He estado pensando mucho en ustedes. Hacen ya once (11) meses desde que nos vimos en Santiago de Cuba, a fines del mes de abril en el año 2016. Desde entonces no he tenido noticias tuyas, aunque te he escrito y he compartido las fotos que sacamos juntas en Santiago de Cuba. Pero, no me has contestado, ni siquiera por correo electrónico.

Por esta región del norte, todavía es invierno a orillas del Lago Michigan y por los Cinco Grandes Lagos de Ontario, Hurón, Superior y Erie, incluyendo al Gran Lago Michigan. La temperatura ha bajado a 5-6-7 grados en Fahrenheit con mucha nieve, vientos de tormentas que causan estragos, daños y perjuicios, además cae granizo también. A pesar de todo, sale el sol y se calienta un poco el ambiente.

Desde que llegué de Santiago de Cuba, el 29 de abril 2017, Roberto Santiago Hung Fong me dejó en la calle y no me abrió la puerta del apartamento, ni me dejó entrar en el apartamento, ni siquiera para ir al baño ni utilizar la ducha para bañarme. Además se quedó con mi ropa de invierno, todos mis abrigos, mis suéteres de lana fina y de algodón, mis botas de invierno, mis efectos electrónicos, mis documentos personales, mi equipo electrónico. Roberto Santiago Hung Fong se hace el ignorante y se comporta mal educado, malcriado y es un desgraciado. Hace once (11) meses que no veo ni hablo con Roberto Santiago Hung Fong tampoco.

Me acuerdo de escribirte unas líneas de recuerdo porque hace una semana me invitaron a visitar a la Iglesia Misión Cristiana Elim en Rogers Park, Chicago. Conocía a Citlali Yadira Calvo y a su esposo Jesús con sus dos hijos gemelos que me llevaron a la Iglesia Misión Cristiana Elim a petición de su Madre Olga Olmos y su esposo Cuauhtémoc Olmos que ahora están en México. Lo curioso es que su apellido de familia es “Olmos” y tú apellido de familia es “Olmo”, parecen estar relacionados por la religión Pentecostal Bautista Cristiana. Olga y Cuauhtémoc Olmos participan también en la Iglesia El Calvario que es un servicio hispano de la Iglesia Bautista de Edgewater en Chicago.

Espero que recibas mi carta hoy, Keila. Por favor contéstame y escríbeme a vuelta de correo electrónico. Dios mediante, nos volvamos a reunir este año 2017 en La Habana, donde vives con tu familia, Abraham Molina y tu hija Jemima.

Me dices ¿cómo estás? Todavía vives en el mismo lugar o ya has permutado. ¿Te mudaste de casa, Keila? Escríbeme por favor. Dios sólo sabe los problemas que mi hermano menor Roberto Santiago Hung Fong ha causado a propósito desde que llegamos de Santiago de Cuba. Me dejó en la calle sin vivienda, ni alojamiento, ni albergue en Chicago. Ni siquiera me devolvió mi ropa de invierno. Entonces estoy con el frío en la calle porque no me quiere ni ver, ni hablar, ni encontrarse conmigo en personal.

Te cuento lo que me pasa porque seguramente ya te lo han dicho en persona.

Dios mediante, se resuelven estos problemas pronto. Es un caso de urgencia.

A Catholic Seminary for Priests in Cuba

Cuban President Raul Castro has attended the inauguration of the first new Catholic building on the communist island in more than half a century.

Mr Castro joined priests, including Vatican officials, at a new seminary outside of the capital, Havana.

Ties between the Roman Catholic Church and state soured in the aftermath of the 1959 Cuban revolution.

Relations have eased in recent years and Church officials recently helped to broker the release of 52 dissidents.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Cuba, Cardinal Jaime Ortega, had warm words for Mr Castro and his brother Fidel during the opening of the new San Carlos and San Ambrosio seminary on Wednesday.

“In the name of the Church, I thank both the former president, as well as current President Raul Castro, who honours us with his presence, for the state’s support of this work,” Cardinal Ortega said.

The inauguration was also attended by senior Vatican officials and a group of bishops from the US, including Thomas Wenski, the Archbishop of Miami, which is the centre of the Cuban exile community.

Papal visit

The new seminary, where students will be trained for the priesthood, is a symbol of just how far Church-state relations have improved in recent years, says the BBC’s Michael Voss in Havana.

Raul Castro turned to the Church to broker a deal over dissidents The original seminary was taken over by the Cuban authorities in 1966 and men wanting to become priests were forced to study at an old building in Havana.

After the 1959 revolution, many priests left Cuba and Fidel Castro declared the island an atheist state, although diplomatic ties with the Vatican were never severed.

The major turning point in relations came in 1998 when Pope John Paul II was permitted to visit Cuba.

Earlier this year, President Raul Castro, facing growing international pressure, turned to the Catholic Church to help arrange the release of 52 political prisoners.

Under the agreement, the government promised to free – by 8 November – 52 political prisoners imprisoned in 2003 after a crackdown on opposition activists, government critics and commentators.

So far, 39 have flown to Spain, along with members of their families. However, seven of the 13 dissidents still in prison have rejected the Church deal because they do not want to leave Cuba.
